Pairing the bath man with a pedestal mat that wraps around the toilet is a great way to add colour to a bathroom. Beach Towel Note that in our lab and at-home tests, we tried out the bath sheet, which is much larger than the average bath towel. However, Lands’ End also offers a towel set, standard bath towels, hand towels, and washcloths in the same style to suit your preferences. Absorbency is another important consideration when purchasing towels, but this factor is often hard to discern when you’re shopping in-store or online. There’s no way to measure a towel’s absorbency without trying it, but you can look for a few indicators that a towel will soak up plenty of water. This towel earned a perfect score in both the absorbency and drying time categories. It dried completely in just about an hour. After following the care instructions, this towel has held up exceptionally well, too. We noted that it looked brand-new after three washes. Additionally, we found the texture became a bit softer and fuzzier post-wash. We also love that the product is GOTS and Made Safe certified, meaning it’s made with organic cotton, in accordance with strict environmental and ethical standards. While it's on the pricey side and won't appeal to folks who love a super-plush towel, we love this lightweight, versatile towel. This everyday towel gets plenty of usage drying hands after hand washing and is found close to the sink in a bathroom. It also makes for a great decorative accent in a bathroom, whether you choose to add a printed towel or a pop of colour. Face Cloths

This towel has maintained its softness and quality over the course of six months, as the color, tassels, texture, and stitching all look and feel great after regular use. However, we did notice that in terms of absorbency and drying time, this towel has fallen short over time. While we’re not sure why this towel changed, we do have doubts regarding its longevity. As you shop for towels, it’s important to know towels are categorized by their construction. Each types has its own set of strengths and weaknesses: I began my process by making note of more basic specs like material, construction, size and ... [+] weight—then moved onto more "challenging" tests, including one that measured each towel's drying capabilities. Caroline Mullen Not necessarily classified as a towel, a bathmatis an essential piece of bathroom linen. It helps to absorb any water as you step out of the shower or the bath, thus avoiding any mishaps from slipping on wet floor tiles. For a bathmat, the optimum material is 100% cotton as it is highly absorbent and dries fast.In terms of durability, it maintained the same texture after we washed and dried it. It passed our abrasion tests with flying colors, and we didn’t notice any snags or loose threads, proving the strength of the thread fibers. We applied foundation and mascara to the material, and both stains completely came out in the wash. Finally, to determine overall durability, I washed each towel three times, separately, on a hot, heavy-duty cycle. After each wash cycle, I ran the towel through the hottest dryer cycle before repeating my process. I noted which of the towel’s fibers had come loose, if any, whether any seemed stiffer or softer after washing and if any had lost dye or vibrancy along the way. You’ll most commonly see towels made from cotton, thanks to its impressive absorbency and softness. There are several types of cotton towels available, including Egyptian cotton, Turkish cotton, organic cotton, Supima cotton, and more. Egyptian and Turkish cotton towels are the most high-end types you can buy. They are both typically made from long-staple fibers, so they are super soft and absorbent—our softest bath towel, the Restoration Hardware Ultra-Soft Turkish Towel Set, is made from 100 percent long-staple Turkish cotton. Just note that Egyptian and Turkish cotton towels also often carry higher price points than towels made from other materials. This towel is smaller than a hand towel and is used for drying hands in the bathroom. They are ideal for a powder room or a guest bathroom and are typically sold in sets of two. Our guest towelsare made from 640gsm fabric with a double twist pile to maximise the surface area, resulting in a luxuriously soft and full towel. Hand Towels Almost all of the towels I tested were made of 100% cotton. This seems simple enough, but it’s actually quite a complex category. Descriptors like “Supima” and “long-staple” abounded, and I found myself curious about the origins of each type of cotton, too. Sean Cormier, chair of the textile development and marketing department at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, helped to break down these terms, noting that different species of cotton relate to staple (or fiber) length in different ways. This, in turn, relates to the length of a single fiber within a “boll” of cotton, or the little puffballs that grow on cotton plants. Cotton is broken down into three staple lengths: short staple (the most common type), long staple and extra-long staple. Generally speaking, longer-staple cotton yields a final product that’s softer and stronger. Most of the cotton grown in the United States is Upland cotton, and it’s great when used to make items such as jeans or flannels. But when it comes to sheets and towels, long-staple cotton (such as Turkish cotton) or extra-long-staple cotton (such as Pima, Supima or Egyptian cotton) are preferable.

Riley Spa Bath Towel: While this is still a good option for those who prefer a thinner towel, it isn’t as soft as I expected for the price. It does offer some thoughtful details, though, like curved edges and a loop for hanging. Still, it felt more like a beach towel than the sort of towel you might like to wrap yourself up in and linger for a while. When it comes to sourcing towels for clients, Laura Pankonien of Austin-based interior design firm The Pankonien Group says that coziness is of paramount importance: “We source high-quality Turkish and Egyptian cotton in a 500 to 600 gram weight for that ultra-cozy hotel spa feel that our clients love.” I tested five other bath towels that didn’t make the final cut—but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth looking into. Each of the following options offers something helpful to the user, and they’re bound to make certain types of shoppers very happy. Those other options are: A plush towel can provide a soft and luxurious feel when drying off after a steamy shower, allowing for a more comfortable and enjoyable experience compared to thinner, rougher towels. Southern Living’s Turkish Cotton & Modal Bath Towel boasts a fluffy and plush texture we couldn’t get enough of. ( Southern Living is owned by The Spruce’s parent company, Dotdash Meredith.) We also were impressed with its visually appealing design, which featured a decorative series of five double-welts on each end rather than the standard band. The loops seemed on and compact, and we found no visible imperfections upon arrival. This towel was definitely on the heavier side at 700 grams per square meter (GSM), which means it has a dense, sturdy construction.

This particular towel was the priciest of the winners I tested. While a higher price tag doesn’t always equate to a higher-quality product, after testing these towels, I believe the Matouk Milagro towels are worth every penny. I found myself looking forward to using them each time the opportunity came up in my testing rotation. Plus, after several months of long-term testing, I still find myself reaching for the Matouk bath towels, despite preferring a larger bath sheet—they’re that soft and luxurious.

According to Cormier, the longer the staple (or fiber), the better and stronger the cotton. Staple length is correlated with the growing region of particular cotton species, and while Turkish cotton falls into the long staple category, the staple of Egyptian cotton is even longer, placing it in the extra-long staple category. Many of the towels I tested are made with Turkish cotton, which is highly durable and great for everyday use, but if your budget allows, splurging on Egyptian cotton can yield an even longer-lasting towel. What Kind Of Bath Towel Is Most Absorbent? A soft towel can enhance your bathroom routine, and Restoration Hardware's Ultra-Soft Turkish Towel provides a truly cozy experience. During lab testing, we were immediately impressed by the luxurious texture of this towel. Material: Turkish cotton | Construction: Terry | Size: 36 x 70 inches | Weight: 820 GSM | Absorbency: 92.5% | Colors: 5 For a lightweight and highly absorbent bath towel, you can’t go wrong with Coyuchi’s Mediterranean Organic Bath Towel. Like most Turkish bath towels, this product is thinner and less plush than your standard terrycloth towel. While we wouldn't necessarily describe it as super soft from the get-go, we don't think it feels scratchy or rough either. During our testing, we found this towel to have a high-quality construction. The surface features a small waffle weave construction that feels tight and sturdy, and the stitching and seams are smooth and even. Additionally, the towel has tightly twisted tassels at both ends for a stylish flair. The colors on our test towel looked bright, even, and saturated.Based on our lab tests, we think it's an upgrade from most everyday towels. Just keep in mind it has higher-maintenance care instructions than some other towels. The manufacturer recommends machine washing on the gentle cycle with cold water and a mild detergent, then tumble drying on low and taking it out of the dryer right when the cycle ends. You'll also want to skip fabric softeners and bleach to maintain its softness and absorbency. The brand indicates that certain skincare products may also affect the towel, including those with benzoyl peroxide. There are some key performance differences associated with various towel weights that are important to factor into your purchasing decision. For instance, products with a low GSM typically dry faster but aren’t as absorbent. An example of this is a lightweight beach towel. On the other hand, heavy towels with a high GSM are the most absorbent and plush, but as such, they will take longer to dry. After the absorbency test came the drying test. I hung each of the towels up in my bathroom on separate towel hooks and let them remain there for 15 hours, at which point I measured (by feel) how much moisture had evaporated from each, giving them a score of 1 through 10, with 10 being the driest and 1 the least dry.
